Head vs. Heart: The Imaginary Divide

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Alex Wall will talk about the biochemical relationship between what we metaphorically think of as "the head" and "the heart."

Traditionally, we grow up understanding that "the head" is rooted in all things logical, practical, reasonable, and demonstrable, while "the heart" is focused more on what we cannot prove, but rather only feel, experience, and, in the very best of instances, maybe describe.

My presentation will explore the background of this imagined divide, why and how this dichotomy is reinforced, and the many empirical reasons that demonstrate how appallingly incorrect this assumption is.

Audience members will be exposed to neuroscientific studies, dissected, analyzed, and explained in plain English -- and these studies will show exactly how dependent our intellectual and physical well-being are on our emotional dispositions, and what we've learned about how the two can mutually enhance one another.

Questions will be encouraged. Games will be played. Fun will be had. Minds will be blown.
